Happy new year! Well, 2016 is done and now it’s time to find the digital marketing future! Yes, I will go through some marketing news and give you my predictions of 2017. The marketing industry is going through a transition and it is a needed one. Now is a great time to tell you what I would like to see in 2017. Oh, GrubHub. This is not your week. The CEO needs better training from his PR team. This will be one of the worst blunders the company has done. I know you may not like political ideologies, but, having people not agree with you is a good thing.  He should have seen this as a strength and not made it look like his employees that voted for Trump should quit. This should be a lesson for everyone. There is some backlash from his email. No one is immune to this. Anyways, Periscope is making some interesting moves. I like where they are going. They have not been competing well against Facebook Live. I hope Twitter is getting focused on what it does best. We shall see if this all pays off.

Social media plans are important for any business, brand, or personality.  It’s good to have a goal or plan for your business. Social media companies are fickle and they change all the time. It’s a good strategy to be on more than one social network. However, not being on every social network. The biggest reason for this is any of these sites can shut down. They can  pivot and do something different. There is no guarantee that the platform will not change or be there for a long time. It is unknowable. However, the site you can control is your own website. This is your best asset and something you need. Your website is the place you call home. Treat your home well.

Live Streaming is showing great potential for businesses. It’s also scaring the TV news media. The Presidential Debates showed an increased interest watching these debates live and online.  The rise of live streaming was quick. In a few years, we saw several companies pushing into this new form of media. We will soon see the leaders. Marketers, it’s important to find out which platform is the best fit for your brand and company. There’s also new data on location-based data. This has some interesting insight into where you should advertise. What companies you should partner with and more! It shows off how important this will be in the near future.  Also, Facebook has released new CTA buttons. This is just in time for the holidays. It’s time to experiment with these buttons. In marketing, content matters. It’s important. It matters how you treat potential candidates. In the long run, they could be your future customers. That’s if you treat them well. If you don’t, they will never and tell their friends not to go there. It’s important that your content is consistent with your words. HR people please stop writing words without looking at what you are saying. However, Google is updating their platforms. They are making sure every program/platform is material design. This is not a bad policy. It’s going to make it look better and make analytics better to read.

Google has released a lot of new features for its analytics software. Prior to this, you could only use the optimizer, data source on the 360 program. Now, they have released beta versions that will help SMBs understand their customers more. This is a great time to learn more about those products. Facebook is a mystery to me. There metric was flawed, but, they did not want to report that.  They decided to release a work social network for some reason. Facebook makes not sense.

Ads, they are a valuable tool This is what will drive sales for businesses. Social networks have their ad programs. They are mostly good if you have a great marketer doing some great ads. We are at an interesting time. The better campaign you have, the more likes, the revenue you could get. The problem is the blockers people are using. Each year people install these programs. Marketers and advertisers are not doing their jobs. We can do better. However, Google launched Allo. This messaging app is interesting. The question is, will it capture a chunk of the market?

The best way is to have a crisis plan. This will give you the best way to deal with a crisis. A well thought out and researched crisis plan can be the best gift any marketers or PR practitioner can do. On this episode, I go through the basic of a crisis plan. I also talk about how to do a rebranding right. There are many companies that do this. Some do it well, others, need work. Do not be the latter. It’s important to do a rebranding your customers can get on board with.
