Crafted Brew: Adding Mods to the Witcher 3

You’ve got the Witcher 3, now what? Mod it, with these great mods. If you are not familiar with mods or where to go, it’s easy! Go to the Nexus Mods and click on the game you wish to mod. However, not all mods are great equal, that’s where I come in. Testing mods and making sure you only get the best mods. Let’s get to it then.

Ultimate Engine

My favorite graphic mod this makes the game. This mod similar to the Fantasy mod brings a much richer experience. It cuts away the orange filter color and brings about a better experience. It also works with the Super Turbo Lighting mod.  I will warn you that these graphic mods do come at a frame rate cost; that does depend on which version you use. Here are some screenshots:

Fantasy

Is The Witcher too dark for you? Then the Fantasy graphic mod is the right one for you. It adds a rich, vibrant color to an otherwise dark world. Even though the game is pretty this just amplifies it. It also works with the Super Turbo Lighting mod. So, make The Witcher a little more high fantasy than dark fantasy with the Fantasy mod. Find out for yourself how great this mod can be with this video:

Polar Bear Armor

This a slight change to the Bear Armor. As the title states, it makes the armor white. I personally like the change and it brings a little variety and adds to the Witcher’s charm. Or at least, adds to the white hair and beard of Geralt. Since most of the witcher armor is dark colors, this brings a different perspective. The white also changes the swords as well. If you are unsure here’s a video on it:

The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project

This is a great mod. It reworks most of the textures in the Witcher 3. The rocks have been retextured and it does add the to game. This is an overhaul mod that I highly recommend. Even just passing by rocks you can tell they have an HD facelift.

Super Turbo Lighting

This is one of the best lighting mods out there. The lighting engine in Witcher 3 vanilla game is good, but this brings the lighting to a whole new level. The great thing is that many graphical mods use this in conjunction with Super Turbo Lighting. If you are unsure about it, here’s a video:

Increased LOD

This mod increase the draw distance. No more untexture building in the distance. It works great and has little to no frame rate drop. However, that is depending on the system you are running. If you are tired of the untextured buildings off in the distance, than this mod is for you.

Lore Friendly Witchers

Geralt is considered a witcher and a very old mutant. In the books, he is white, or even more white than the game depicts him. This mod brings out the yellow in the Witchers eyes. If you’re looking for a more lore friendly Witcher than this is the mod for you. If you need more convincing, here’s a video:

Weather Enhanced

This mod makes the weather a bit better. The lighting strikes more intense. The rain is a downpour and the storms can last longer. It’s a great mod to add, if you are looking for better weather effects in Witcher. Here’s a video that shows off the enhanced weather:

9000 Weight Limit

The worst part about the game is the very small weight limit it has. Adventuring in The Witcher is fun, but in the vanilla game, you cannot carry everything. This mods changes that, instead of the max 160 weight limit, it’s not over 9000. Now you can loot everything and everyone without worrying about being overencumbered. Unless, you prefer that, I highly recommending using this mod.

All NPC Scabbards

From some odd reason, soldiers do not have sheathe’s or scabbards for their swords. It seems rather odd, since Geralt is the only one that does. Seems curious the main character would be the only one that has scabbards. This mod gives every NPC with a sword a scabbard. It works really well and I highly recommend it. Here’s a video that shows the mod in action:

Enhanced Monster Trophies

Let’s be honest, the trophies were an interesting idea, but, they all were the same. This adds more complexity to the trophies and adds some difficulty to the monsters. Almost every trophy adds different benefits for Geralt. It adds to the strategy of each battle. It’s not just what oil, bombs and potions to use, but, now which trophy to use during combat.
