Facebook activity down, Google hurt ads? Plus, political marketing

Google Ads

Today’s Episode

Google ads, they are effective. Even Google has figured out the right formula for their own products. However, Google ads to affect ads. This is going to be an increasing problem the more Google pushes into products. Companies should try to beat their ads. It’s not right given that Google knows their system very well, but, that is the world we live in.

The funny part is seeing Facebook activity going down. This may be what most people were feeling. It has been felt for a while that people do not use Facebook as much as they use to. This is why Facebook has moved into developing countries. They know people use other sites or have canceled their accounts. Find out more down below.

Why some companies completely missed the point of the Super Bowl

Super Bowl

Today’s Episode

The Super Bowl. It’s a time for people to get together and enjoy two teams fighting for a title. One of the reasons why the Super Bowl got so popular is because of the commercials. Businesses decided to make their commercials spectacles that were funny. Football brought people together. It did not matter what political affiliation you were, it was time to watch a great game… hopefully. Now, that seems like an impossible task. This year some businesses decided to go political.

However, it was not all of them. Some still showed their funny side, but, others missed the ball. In this tense time in America, businesses need to understand that it is getting worse. You can stand for something, but, be prepared to suffer some consequences for that. Audi is the best example. They decided to make a commercial about gender issues and forget they were selling cars.

This episode is all about the commercials and other things that happened at the Super Bowl. Mostly, it has to with the messaging and making sure you do not do something that will set a group off or a smaller group. Find out more down below

Starbucks virtue marketing and why your customers are not monoliths

Starbucks Virtue

Today’s Episode

Starbucks virtue marketing. It’s similar to virtue signaling. Too close from what I’ve seen. This is a way for a company to capitalize on a political controversy for monetary gain. They have done it before and will do it again. The problem with this is the company equates that every customer is a monolith. That is not true. No one agrees with you 100 percent. I do not care how close you are with your friend, there will be disagreements. Starbucks is painting itself into a corner, if they are not careful, their sales could drop.

The reason is my generation. My generation is the best virtue signaling group I have ever seen. It needs to stop. You are not making a change and you are forcing businesses into stupid decisions. Culture is a pendulum. One moment, one idea is popular, then years later, it switches. This is usually because of the next generation coming of age. I hope Starbucks weighs its risks, because this is a bitter fight in American culture, be sure you know what this means.

Google+ and LinkedIn update and why business should say about politics

LinkedIn update

Today’s Episode

It happened, LinkedIn update is a great step forward in 2017. They unveiled their new web design and it looks great. They were talking about it for months and now they are rolling it out. I will add that I do not have it yet. It’s a really slow rollout. If you have not gotten it yet, just sit tight. The update emphasizes content. This is just the push to be more modern on their website. It needed to happen. It’s the best gift for social media in 2017!

I also talk about the need for businesses to stay neutral. It is the best policy. Unless you can guarantee there is no backlash and you are on the side that wins, it’s a bad idea. If you want to know, Target paid the price for this. The bathroom policy good or bad had a consequence. Their sales went down 20 percent. It was a bad business move.  Find out why down below.

Wake up to new live features, ads in stories and fake news

live features

Today’s Episode

Facebook announced new live features for brands. Now you can live stream through your brand page on the web. This means brands can do better live video with better equipment. My brand page does not have it yet, but, social media companies do slow rollouts. The good thing for users is there is a potential for better content. That’s what digital marketers are all about! Also, be aware that more live streaming is going to happen. This could make it oversaturated in a matter of years. That means making a plan and calculating what is going to be the best content for your fans.

We now turn to the demise of App.net. I know many of you may not have heard about this, but, it was supposed to be the alternative to Twitter. It was an interesting platform, but, it was too similar. The problem now is new companies copying another platform. Never do that. Be your own platform. Find out more down below.

Amazon sells big, Facebook has new prompts and Vine is no more

Today’s Episode

Vine is no more. Vine is shutting down soon. This is not a surprise to anyone. The social platform was not supported by Twitter and it focused on live streaming. The audience dwindled and it is shutting down. It will live on as a camera, but, take a backseat to Periscope. It’s a shame to how this all went down, but, six-second videos did not need a standalone platform. This is the best alternative. It is a reminder that everything can die and build your audience on different platforms is a wise decision. There are other platforms to do short video. There is no shortage of that. Facebook did a short update to brand pages. It’s an interesting way to get business to post different content. I wonder if it will be any good. Only time will tell.

Pinterest Showcases and what the Web 3.0 might be

Web 3.0

Today’s Episode

The web is an everything changing environment. We are in 2.0 and now web 3.0 is upon us. It seems to be more about voice search and AMP. This could change, but, we are in an interesting. Yes, everything changes quickly; sometimes more so than we want. I go through why you need to know this and at least look into it. Also, Pinterest launched a new feature called showcase. This allows brands to showcase boards that may not be performing well and products your selling on Pinterest. I like this new feature. I think this could help brands show off their best content. This could bring more engagement to brands if they do it right. If you have not seen it yet, then you don’t have a business page. You should probably get on that.

Anyways, on with the show!
